truffle growing workshop

Group Workshops:  (Maximum 12)
10.00am – 3.00pm & Includes Lunch

Why not join us on Cradle Country Farm for one of our all-inclusive truffle farming workshops. Get down and dirty on this intensive two day course to learn first-hand, practical knowledge of the full truffle growing experience.

This intensive two day seminar is suitable for all – Truffle enthusiasts simply wanting to know more about this elusive, expensive and delectable fungus, those who are thinking of farming truffle and not sure where to start, and for the seasoned truffle farmer who wants to gain a greater understanding of the truffle industry, make new connections, broaden their markets and improve their truffle yield.

Our morning starts with a cuppa and a catch up to get to know our fellow truffle enthusiasts in our converted barn, The Truffledore. Then straight into our presentation where we cover everything from pre and post planting, growing, harvesting, dog training & handling, managing and marketing.

We expect you will be a little peckish after your morning of intensive learning so we will return to The Truffledore to break for our long table lunch. This lunch forms part of our learning, where you will get to sample the delicious flavours of this magnificent mushroom. A great opportunity for more questions and answers and for getting to know your fellow truffle enthusiasts.

Our afternoon session will be a science practical, where we check out some root samples under a microscope. Here you will gain an understanding of the nature of the tree and fungus and how they work together in a symbiotic relationship. The afternoon will conclude with a stroll through the Truffière and a glass of bubbles to celebrate the close of our day.

After our catch up for a cuppa in The Truffledore and a brief overview of what we learned on day one, it’s straight on with our outdoor gear and off to tour the farm!  Meet our working farm animals, call in our truffle hunting dogs and head off to the Truffière. You will learn first-hand the simplicity and complexities of Truffle farming using the ‘closed loop’ system. You will see how our highly trained dogs hunt for truffle and you will learn how to harvest, clean, grade, pack, post and store your fresh truffle.

A break for another tantalising truffle lunch and ready to get stuck in for our practical afternoon session.

You will get the chance to be a truffle farmer for the afternoon - ‘muck in’ with dog training and handling, pruning techniques, weed and insect management, irrigation, soil structure, re-inoculation therapy and get to know the when, where, how and why we work with nature to get the most from our boutique Truffière and our farm. You will learn the techniques of natural and artificial inoculation and you will go away armed with technical and a practical wealth of knowledge to start you on your way… And of course, we celebrate the close of our day with a glass of bubbles.
